How One Tough-as-Nails FWT Rookie Salvaged Her Season After a Massive Fall

First, drop everything and go read the writing on Britta Winans' website. She’s a mighty good skier, clearly, but she’s also a very talented up-and-coming writer whose work you’re going to start seeing a lot more of in the years to come.

OK, now onto her skiing.

Britta Winans had pictured her rookie debut on the Freeride World Tour (FWT) in her head. She’d visualized skiing her dream line into a cheering crowd at the finish area.

That is not how her first run on the FWT turned out.

At her FWT debut last January in Baqueira Beret, Spain, Winans, then 22, suffered a major fall and badly injured her shoulder. It was a learning lesson for her: Things don’t always turn out the way you picture them. But you can still move forward.
