Flylow is a brand that’s near and dear to my heart for a lot of reasons. (Namely, I married the founder, but also I’m just a super fan of the Foxy Bibs). I’ve had a front-row seat to watching this little company grow from a couple of guys in a basement in Denver 20 years ago to one of the coolest, most respected outerwear brands in the ski industry. (I’m biased, but still: Ask anyone.) Back in the early days, if you saw someone wearing Flylow on a skintrack or in a liftline, chances are they knew Dan or Greg. These days, some of the best skiers at the best mountains around the world choose Flylow because it’s durable, well-made, and clearly designed by people who actually ski and understand the complex needs of a true skier. (Case in point: See the bathroom-friendly side zipper of my favorite Foxy Bibs…)
Inside Homegrown, a new coffee table book I wrote and edited to celebrate 20 years of Flylow.
So, when it came time to celebrate 20 years of Flylow being an independent company, it seemed like making a coffee table book would be a nice way to tell the story of the brand and all the people who supported it over the years. I recruited my friend Dana Smith, a talented Denver-based designer, to design the book and I gathered up the best stories and photos I could to tell the whole picture of this little-brand-that-could. Writing this book was a true labor of love and made for some fun strolls down memory lane. Of course, naming the book was easy: Homegrown. This has been a family business from day one and it’s literally still run out of our home. (Though there are actual offices these days, too.)
Anyway, the book is for sale now if you’ve got any room on your coffee table. You can read more about the making of the book here.
